#Spookybooksbywomen: Eine kurze Empfehlungsliste zum #spooktober

These are some of my favorite novels about witches and ghosts by female writers:

Stella Benson, Living Alone (1919): set during WW1; a witch stumbles into the meeting of a charitable committee and proceeds to turn the committee members' lives upside down...

Sylvia Townsend Warner, Lolly Willowes (1926): a middle-aged spinster moves to a country village to escape her controlling relatives and takes up the practice of witchcraft.

Mary Stewart, Thornyhold (1988): a young woman inherits her dead cousin's house as well as her reputation among the local community as a witch. As she soon finds out, this is no normal community...

Shirley Jackson, We Have Always Lived in the Castle (1962): Merricat Blackwood lives alone with her older sister and their ailing uncle in a crumbling mansion after the rest of the family has been poisoned...

Sarah Waters, The Little Stranger (2009): a country doctor is called to Hundred Hall, home of the Ayres family, where a poltergeist seems to be in residence.

Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House (1959): An investigator of the occult assembles a group of people at Hill House in order to find evidence of supernatural phenomena. Soon, strange things start happening...

Libba Bray, The Diviners (2012): 1920s New York is haunted by the ghost of a fanatic serial killer; 17-year-old Evie and her friends have to use their psychic powers to stop him from committing more murders...

Welche denn? Einige aus meiner Liste sind ja auch sehr obskur, da hab ich noch niemanden getroffen, die die auch gelesen hätte.
